It is important for all property owners in Itasca to understand the portion of infrastructure that the Village maintains and the portion for which the property owner is responsible. The Village maintains all of the water main, fire hydrants, and valves in the public Right-Of-Way (R.O.W). This includes the property owner’s service line from the water main to the service valve.
In residential areas, the service valve is typically located in the parkway in front of the property, regardless of the water main location. If the water main is on the opposite side of the road from the property, the Village will maintain the service under the road, up to and including the service valve. The property owner is responsible for the service after the service valve to the water meter.
In commercial areas, the service valve is typically located on the same side of the R.O.W as the water main. The property owner is still responsible for the service after the service valve to the water meter, which could include maintenance within the R.O.W., roadways, and sidewalks.
Although infrequent, the need for water service maintenance does occur. If you have any questions, please contact Public Works at 630-773-2455.
