The History of Usher Park

Before it became the park we know today, this land was home to Itasca’s blacksmith and inventor, Ernst C. Schroeder, in the late 1800s. Over the years, the area remained undeveloped until the Village of Itasca purchased the land in 1980, with plans to create a space that would benefit the entire community.

Originally, there were discussions about building a new village hall and police station on the property, but in the end, the village chose to preserve the space as a beautiful public park. In 1985, Itasca lost its beloved Village President, Wesley "Jerry" Usher, and the community came together to name the park in his honor.

By 1988, Usher Park was officially completed, featuring:

  • A Victorian-style gazebo, a popular spot for photos and gatherings
  • A scenic pond, home to beautiful wildlife such as swans
  • Expansive green space perfect for walks and outdoor activities
  • Benches and shaded areas for relaxing and taking in the view
