Water Meter Replacement and AMI Project

Posted on: August 21, 2023

[ARCHIVED] Important Information About Water Meter Replacement and AMI Project

AMI Meter

The new meters will replace 20-year-old equipment and will allow the Village to read meters on the same day each month - resulting in less variation between billing cycles.

The $1.5 million Water Meter Replacement and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project was awarded to Core & Main. It will replace nearly 2,800 water meters and install an AMI system, which will eliminate the need for manual meter reading.  The AMI system and new Sensus water meters will also include tools that can help detect leaks in customers’ homes and improve customer service.

The new Sensus water meters will be installed by United Meter Inc., who is a licensed plumbing company subcontracted by Core & Main and the Village.  The meter installation will occur in phases with the village divided into smaller geographic areas to focus the replacement effort.

Approximately 1-2 weeks prior to your meter replacement, you will receive additional communications from the Village requesting that you call to schedule your meter replacement.  The installation will take approximately 30 minutes during which time your water service will be interrupted. Please be advised that the installers must have access to your water meter, which is most likely located in your basement or crawlspace.

The Village appreciates your patience and cooperation during this important and mandatory program.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Village of Itasca Public Works Department at 630-773-2455.  For additional Information please visit the Village of Itasca website at www.itasca.com/2182/Water-Meter-and-AMI-Project.
