Roadway and Infrastructure Improvements Program

Construction Update – 2023 Roadway & Infrastructure Improvements – Phase 2 - Week of April 17, 2023

During installation on N. Maple Street, N. Maple will be closed to through traffic and detoured to N. Oak Street. During installation work on W. Center Street, W. Center Street will be closed to through traffic from Maple Street to Catalpa Avenue with traffic detoured to Division Street. Access to the Food Pantry on W. Center Street will be maintained. The installation of a new sanitary sewer and sanitary sewer service connections will continue on N. Elm Street, continuing north to Bryn Mawr Avenue. N. Elm Street will be closed to through traffic between E. North Street and Bryn Mawr Avenue. Due to poor soil conditions encountered, Elm Street is closed to emergency vehicles between W. North Street and Bryn Mawr Avenue.  After the sanitary sewer and laterals are installed, the water main installation on N. Elm Street will begin at Bryn Mawr Avenue proceeding south to E. North Street. Traffic will be detoured to N. Walnut Street. 

Work is expected to occur between 7 am and 5:00 pm. Through traffic will be detoured around the work areas. We thank you for your patience. 

On Monday, April 17th and Tuesday, April 18th, the intersection of Bryn Mawr Avenue and N. Elm Street will be closed to through traffic during the work hours of 7 am to 5 pm. Through traffic will be detoured around the intersection. The intersection will be open to emergency vehicles. 

Additionally, on Tuesday April 18th the intersection of N. Maple Street and W. Division Street will be closed to through traffic and emergency vehicles for the installation of water main piping during the work hours of 7 am and 5 pm. Detour routes will be posted around the work area. 

During this work expect the following:

  • All roads will be open to emergency vehicles, except for N. Elm Street between E. North Street and Bryn Mawr Avenue.
  • Tree Removal and tree trimming will be done at various locations as required for construction of utilities and the proposed improvements.  Trees removed will be replaced.
  • Utility work (ComEd, NICOR, MCI, etc.) along the project area will be taking place throughout construction.
  • Heavy Construction Equipment, material deliveries, material storage in parkways and construction noise will be present from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily and at times until dusk.
  • The construction will create dust and debris.  The Contractor will work to minimize the impacts.
  • Access to driveways may be briefly interrupted
  • Workers will inform residents of driveway interruption prior to its occurrence
  • Temporary truck staging is expected on roadways and adjacent streets
  • Please Use CAUTION in around the construction site.
  • The schedule is weather dependent.
