Given today’s extreme heat, here are some tips and resources for staying cool.
- Check on elderly family members/neighbors
- Stay in the shade or indoors as much as possible
- Take pets indoors and make sure they have plenty of water
- Stay hydrated
- Take advantage of cooling centers, public pools and air-conditioned stores and malls during periods of extreme heat. Even a few hours a day in air conditioning can help prevent heat-related illnesses. Below are some local cooling centers.
- Itasca Village Hall/Police Department – 550 W. Irving Park Road. Will be open all day and night.
- Itasca Community Library – 500 W. Irving Park Road. Will be open 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Itasca Park District – 350 Irving Park Road. Will be open 5:15 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
