Beginning Thursday, February 3rd, a Village of Itasca contractor will begin visiting homes in the Phase 1 Area of the project, to determine if the property is eligible for a replacement of a lead water service line.
Typically, replacement of a lead service line costs homeowners eight to ten thousand dollars. The good news is that Itasca has secured a grant to cover 100% of the cost to homeowners in the Phase 1 Area. Water service lines deliver water to your home from the Village’s water main. These lines, which are the responsibility of the homeowner, are the most significant source of elevated lead in drinking water today.
To qualify for this program, the Village’s licensed contractor, Joel Kennedy Constructing Corp. will need to conduct an inspection of your line from inside your home. A letter was sent last month notifying residents of this inspection. Because we don’t want anyone to miss this opportunity, the Village has asked Joel Kennedy Construction Corp to go door-to-door to homes who have not responded, to either schedule or perform an onsite inspection. If you are not home, a door hanger will be left with contact information to schedule an appointment.
All representatives from Joel Kennedy will be in a marked vehicle and have an ID badge. Please remember if you have any concerns about the credentials of someone representing the Village, you can always contact the Village Hall at (630) 773-0835 to verify their identity.
