The Village of Itasca has been advised that Canadian Pacific Railway and Kansas City Southern has filed an application with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board to merge operations.
Last week, Canadian Pacific informed Village officials that the merger will likely result in 8 additional freight trains on the Milwaukee West line than is currently present. The Village has begun working with other affected municipalities to quantify the impact on residents and businesses.
An informational website, set up by Canadian Pacific in coordination with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board to keep the public informed about merger, is available at: https://www.cp-kcsmergereis.com.
The Surface Transportation Board is looking for input from residents or business owners who feel they may be impacted by additional freight traffic. Citizens can voice their concerns at upcoming Public Meetings on December 7, 8 and 9. Information on how to participate in these zoom meetings can be found at: https://www.cp-kcsmergereis.com/involvement.htm.
