Today, I met with Itasca restaurant owners and operators. Unfortunately, it is likely that some of our long-standing restaurants may never reopen, if the state persists in requiring them shut their doors again.
Our restaurants, most of whom are small businesses, locally owned and operated, have spent thousands of dollars this summer to meet state COVID protocols to keep their employees and patrons safe and healthy. Now they are being told that it is not enough. While other businesses remain open with extra safety precautions, the state is forcing these small businesses to close their doors.
In response to my conversation with local business owners, I have sent letters to Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker and DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin, urging them to lift the ban on in-person dining.
Moving forward, I will continue to look for ways our Village can support our local restaurants. Please join me this weekend in ordering out, to keep our restaurants viable.
