The guide provides information on the election process to prospective candidates seeking office at the local level. It also provides general information, such as requirements for filing nominating papers, specific forms to be used, etc. The State Board of Elections also publishes a 2021 Local Election Official's Handbook and the 2021 Election & Campaign Finance Calendar. Those seeking to run for local political office at the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election may pick-up candidate packets from the Village Clerk’s Office at 550 W. Irving Park Road. To file for candidacy individuals must submit the following documents to the Village Clerk’s Office no later than Monday, December 21st:
The filing period for nomination packets for these elected positions is December 14 - 18th, through Monday, December 21st. During the filing period, the Village Clerk's Office will accept nominating packets at Village Hall on the following dates and times:
Please note, the Village Hall is not open on Saturdays and Sundays; nomination packets will not be accepted during any other time periods or if deposited in the payment drop box located outside Village Hall.
Candidate names will be places on the ballot in the order in which the qualified petitions have been filed. However, if there are simultaneous filings at 8:00 a.m. on the first day, a lottery will be held to determine which filer is named on the election ballot first. For any petitions filed between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. on the last day, a lottery will be held to determine which filer is named on the election ballot last. Any lottery will be held on December 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Village Hall.
Nomination papers shall be deemed to be valid unless objections are filed in writing (an original and two copies) within five business days after the last day for filing nomination papers. The objector’s petitions are filed with the same office in which the nominating petitions are filed. Objections may be filed during regular business hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
