Itasca Lions Begin Distribution of Christmas Luminaria Dec 2

The Lions will distribute Christmas Luminaria bags to homes in the Village on Dec 2. Please light your candles at 5pm on Christmas Eve, Dec 24. Additional bags available at Park District, 7-11 and Police Department. "Rain Date" is 5pm on Christmas Day.

The Itasca Lions are proud to continue the tradition of the Christmas Luminaria, which started in Itasca back in 1960 by Boyd and Barbara Hindman. Luminaria have their origin in Mexico and it was the Hindmans who lit the first Christmas Eve Luminaria in the area.  The tradition of candle lit bags lining the walkways and streets on Christmas Eve is symbolic of the “Lighting of the Christ Child’s way home”.

The Lions plan to use a drone to take pictures and a video of the Village  from above which they will make available after the event.

The Lions of Itasca appreciate any and all donations for the luminaria.  Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the residents, luminaria donations have allowed the Lions Club to continue their mission of helping those in need.
