The Happy Acres reconstruction project is substantially completed. The lift station pumps and controls have been tested and are currently operational. The remaining work includes abandoning the existing lift station, site restoration at the pump station, touch-up landscaping on the slopes, and additional work at the remote storm water monitoring manhole at North and Hickory. The contractor will also install aeration system in the basin to help maintain clean fresh water. This project is on schedule with a final completion date of May 15, 2010.
The project consists of removing approximately 48,000 cubic yards of material (3,000 truck loads), re-grading, installing new pumps, and controls. The majority of the work will be performed on site. This will also include the removal or 46 trees from the area.
The proposed truck route will be Bryn Mawr Avenue to Arlington Heights Road to Thorndale Avenue. We anticipate no road closures; please use caution when traveling through the area. We apologize for any inconvenience the construction may cause. When completed we will almost double the capacity of the pond and significantly improve the operation of this facility.
The contractor started set up and dewatering operation on 7-27-09, once the dewatering was completed approximately 3 to 4 feet of mud was exposed on the bottom. The contractor can not transport wet spoil material from the site. They are banking the material in an effort to dry the spoil for transport. Every rain event will have an adverse effect on this project, for every ½ inch of rain we receive the pond accumulates about 1 foot of water.
