Gun Lock Distribution
The Itasca Police Department, in conjunction with funding from the United States Department of Justice is participating in Project Childsafe, whereby the Itasca Police Department will be distributing free gun locks to residents to ensure safe, responsible firearm ownership and storage.
Project Childsafe is not a firearms registration program, and no registration or identification is required to participate. Free gun locks will be distributed based on availability. Free gun locks can be picked up at the Itasca Police Department.
- According to the Department of Justice, there are over 200 million firearms in the United States
- Guns are present in approximately 50% of U.S. households
- Approximately 1,800 children ages 14 and under are treated annually in hospital emergency rooms for unintentional firearm-related injuries
