Garbage Pick-up

Garbage is picked up each Monday except when the Monday falls on one of the following holidays in Calendar Year 2022:
  • NEW YEAR'S DAY - Jan 3, 2022 pickup will be delayed by one day due to the holiday.
  • MEMORIAL DAY - May 30, 2022 pickup will be delayed by one day due to the holiday.
  • INDEPENDENCE DAY - Jul 4, 2022 pickup will be delayed by one day due to the holiday.
  • LABOR DAY - Sep 5, 2022 pickup will be delayed by one day due to the holiday.
Please note: CHRISTMAS DAY - Dec 25, 2022. The holiday does not impact the service schedule.

    Garbage Containers

    Each residence will receive 1 95-gallon cart for garbage and 1 65-gallon cart for recycling. These carts have wheels and lids. Once the carts have been delivered, residents will have the option of changing the size of their carts to better fit their individual needs. If you wish to have your cart size changed, again after the initial delivery, please contact Republic Services (Allied) at 847-981-0091. They will schedule a pick-up and exchange of carts. Please review the following regulations:
    1. Trash shall be placed in the approved blue cart with a blue lid. Any additional trash left at the curb will also be collected
    2. The driver will continue to take extra items at the curb under the same rules as before
    3. The carts remain the property of Republic Services (Allied). They will be replaced, free of charge if damaged
    4. All recyclables shall be placed in the approved blue cart with a green lid. Recyclables can be co-mingled
    5. Recyclables should not be placed in any other container. If you need a larger cart please arrange for 1 with Republic (Allied)
    6. Yard waste is collected in paper bags or in containers marked yard waste. If you want to rent a cart please contact Republic
    7. Extra carts are available for a monthly rental fee
    Please follow these guidelines:
    • Refuse may not be placed out at the curb before 4 p.m. on the Sunday prior to trash pick-up
    • All empty refuse containers must be removed from the curb by 10 p.m. on the day of pick-up

    Refuse Violations

    Refuse violations are administered in a 3-step enforcement program:
    • 1st Violation - A courtesy reminder letter will be issued advising of the ordinance.
    • 2nd Violation - A written warning citation will be issued.
    • 3rd Violation and Subsequent Violations in a 12-month Period - A $30 Village Ordinance citation will be issued.

    Acceptable Containers

    • Aluminum cans, trays and foil (trays and foil must be cleaned)
    • Steel cans and tins
    • Aseptic packaging and gable top containers (milk & juice cartons)
    • Glass bottles and jars (clear, brown, green)
    • PET soda, water, and flavored beverage bottles (#1 clear and green plastic resin)
    • HDPE milk, water and juice jugs (#2 clear plastic resin)
    • HDPE detergent and fabric softener containers (#2 colored plastic resin)
    • PVC narrow neck containers only (#3 plastic resin such as health and beauty aid products, household cleaners)
    • LDPE grocery containers (#4 plastic resin such as margarine tubs, frozen desert cups, 6 pack rings, etc.)
    • PP grocery containers (#5 plastic resin such as yogurt cups, and narrow neck syrup and ketchup bottles)
    • #7 Plastic resin narrow neck containers only
    • Plastic Buckets, such as kitty litter containers (5 gallon size maximum with no metal handles)

    Additional Container Information

    1. All containers to be emptied and rinsed clean
    2. No motor oil, insecticide, herbicide or hazardous chemical containers
    3. No plastic bags - instead reuse or return to grocery or department stores
    4. No plastic sheets or film (no plastic sheets, tarps or wrap)
    5. Expanded foam and clear polystyrene not accepted per joint advisory from the Illinois Recycling Association, Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, and Region 5 US Environmental Protection Agency

    Acceptable Paper Fiber Materials

    • Newspaper, including inserts (remove plastic sleeves)
    • Cardboard (no waxed cardboard)
    • Kraft (brown paper) Bags
    • Magazines, catalogs and telephone books
    • Office, computer, notebook and gift wrap paper (no metal clips, spirals, binders)
    • Chipboard (cereal, cake and food mix boxes, gift boxes, shoe boxes, etc.)
    • Carrier stock (soda and beer can carrying cases)
    • Junk mail and envelopes (no plastic cards, stick on labels or unused stamps)
    • Paper back books (no hard cover books)
